Transcending the Tribal Mind
Despite the striking dominance of the neocortex, even today civilized men and women are driven by the functions of the primitive brain: all menfolk, for thousands of years, have had ritualistic behaviors, predatory killing, territorial behavior, etc. We also have a strong tendency to tribalism, i.e., the hostility toward people which do not belong to our immediate social groups (family, village, race, etc.).
I thought it was strangely fitting that I found myself here immediately after seeing Without Sanctuary

Without Sanctuary: Lynching Photography in America
In America everything is for sale, even a national shame. . .

It wasn't the corpse that bewildered me, as much as the canine-thin faces of the pack, lingering in the woods, circling after a kill. . .

Lust propelled their commercial reproduction and distribution, facilitating the endless replay of anguish. Even dead, the victims were without sanctuary. . .

I can't help but think of these photos, and the march of time, and of the cold steel trigger in the human heart.

It happened. People brought their kids, posed and smiled for pictures, poked the corpses with sticks, and printed postcards.

I cried watching the movie.

Contortion Photo Library
This stuff is insane. And then there's me. I can't even touch my toes, let alone tie myself into a knot.

Bob's Quick Guide to the Apostrophe, You Idiots!
A lot of people should read this. I'm so tired of seeing people stick apostrophes wherever they feel like it (and yes, I'm a pedant).

Obscene Interiors
What's more hideous than most porn stars? Well, not a lot. But sometimes the decorating in the porn-environment can come pretty close. Ha! I wrote "come."

101 Unuseless Japanese Inventions
I love chindogu. Why be useful when you can be "un-useless"?

10 K 4 a Wife
They say "What’s wrong with you? Are you desperate?" Then they proceed to say, "A good looking successful guy like you shouldn't have any problems getting a date" (this is usually older ladies)

At least the boy in the entry below is only 11. I think that Mr. 10K should give the aforementioned "older ladies" a shot.

Hello My Future Girlfriend
I particularly like the romantic sunset in the background. Oh, how I would love to have a nice young man to share it with me. Especially if he had a fashionable hair-cut and spoke really, really slowly in a voice that is due to change in a year or so. Sigh.

Ain't No Way To Go
A collection of articles/stories, all about the strange/stupid ways people have died. It's kind of fascinating, in the most morbid of ways.

"Psychic tries to stop freight train with mind. Locomotive has other ideas."
"Diesel-powered hydraulic backhoes - and the men who love them."
"Five brothers drown trying to retrieve car keys."

I would like a boy/girl. . .
I've read a few of these, and they are kind of cute. It seems that people fluctuate between long lists of minutiae, and saying, "I'd like someone who would like me."

I was wondering what kind of list I'd make, but I have no idea what I'd put on it. I just have a mental list of negatives. I guess that says something about me.

I think that a lot of people want someone to be their bitch and do cute things for them, while still maintaining enough of a backbone to keep things interesting.

Semenex
Ha! This is funny. I wonder what the revenue is like for this kind of endeavor. The pictures are hideous.

Evil Science University
It's more than just a school. [It's] an ancient tradition of growing up, learning to live on one's own, acquiring henchmen and murdering rivals.
Word on the street is that a few members of the Death Robot Society have done some post-graduate work in the Physics and Combat departments. Of course, we'll never be able to find out for sure.
